NEIL IN THE KITCHEN FOR ROCKPOOL’S LAST WEEK ON GEORGE ST

The time is nigh and there is certainly a sense of melancholy down on George St.

Rockpool on George, the first ever, the iconic, the mother ship, closes her doors after dinner service on Saturday November 9. The following Tuesday, November 12 though, we swing open a new set of doors – to Rockpool on Bridge St and begin the embrace of the next chapter.

To celebrate and relive what has been an incredibly important part of his life, Neil will be returning to Rockpool on George’s kitchen from Tuesday to Saturday that final week, cooking a selection of his favourite dishes spanning the past 24 years. Phil and the team will be there in the kitchen to make sure he does nothing wrong! Here’s a teaser…

Salad of confit abalone, fine noodles, white fungi with mushroom soy and truffle oil dressing

Lobster, master stock chicken, mango salad with tamarind dressing

Squid and smoked bacon with chili and squid ink noodles

King prawn and goats cheese tortellini with peanut, raisin and burnt butter

Blue eye poached in garam masala and coconut milk

John Dory seared in Indian pastry with curried lentils

Roast milk fed lamb with red braised vegetables and aioli

While Neil and his partner Trish are both a little nostalgic about the move, they are also excited about presenting a new and contemporary fine dining experience up the road, and about taking Rockpool to a whole new level. They have been working closely with Grant Cheyne Architects for the past five months on the design of the new restaurant. We will, of course, keep you posted!

In the meantime, book in and experience this incomparable part of Sydney’s dining history for one last time as Rockpool on George bids you farewell just short of her 25 birthday… oops – something in my eye…
